Student misbehavior is usually a symptom for a lack of clarity. As flowers grow on their own towards the sunlight, learners will move themselves toward clear goals and expectations. The job of the educator is to create an environment that radiates clarity. Clarity gives a classroom order, structure, and a perceived sense of control. This reduces anxiety, evokes positive behavior, and evokes focus.
Effective classroom management does not come from managing students, but, in designing your classroom environment that makes it natural for positive behavior to occur. Clarity is a design principle that that permeates throughout Agile Classrooms and is why The Visible Classroom is the first element on the stairway towards more empowerment and collaboration.
